A location can fulfil a gift only when it has the product, approved packaging components and required service capability. Check that feasibility before applying preferences such as proximity or avoiding split shipments. Product stock alone may route the order to a site that cannot complete its selected presentation.

Define a gift-ready location
List the actual product and packaging requirement, including message printing or other selected work. The channel configuration guide helps keep shared and location-specific material distinct.
Shopify documents ordered routing rules for fulfilment locations. Those rules do not by themselves prove that your configuration models packaging bills of materials or gift-service capacity. Any additional eligibility method must actually exist and be verified.
Eight gift-ready orders can be better than twenty products
Assume one fictional gift needs a product, box and card, plus an approved message-printing route. Counts below are uncommitted usable quantities.
Scroll horizontally if columns extend beyond the view.
| Location | Products | Boxes | Cards | Required printing supported | Gift capacity |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| A | 20 | 0 | 20 | Yes in the scenario | 0 |
| B | 10 | 10 | 0 | Yes in the scenario | 0 |
| C | 8 | 8 | 8 | Yes in the scenario | 8 |
C is the only complete candidate for up to eight gifts under these assumptions. Selecting A simply because it has more products would leave the presentation incomplete.
If C cannot perform the actual message operation, its complete material count still doesn’t make it eligible. Treat service capability as a distinct condition, not another quantity.
Apply route preferences among feasible candidates
Only after identifying eligible locations should the responsible routing method compare destination, split-fulfilment or other preferences. Keep actual deadlines and service constraints attached to the choice.
A packaging transfer can create a later eligible state at another location, but its timing and receipt release remain unresolved until supported. Don’t count an incoming card as immediately available for an accepted gift.
For multi-item gifts, verify that the proposed location can create the complete promised presentation. A product-only split may need a separate customer-service and physical packing decision.
Test the real routing interface
Use a controlled order to compare the eligibility inputs, chosen location and actual packing output. Retain unsupported cases on an exception route. The useful result is a location-feasibility model connected to the actual system, rather than an assumed software feature or a diagram of warehouses with arbitrary arrows.

The worked scenario is original editorial analysis with assumed inputs, not a supplier offer, customer record or measured Packrivo result. Commercial feasibility and physical suitability remain project-specific.
Separate printing capability from remaining printing slots
Keep the original three-location component comparison. At its fictional location C, assume eight complete eligible sets and printing capability marked YES. Add six uncommitted printing slots in the same planning window. Capability describes an allowed type of operation in this example; it does not say how much unused service time remains.

Let P be personalised sets and G be generic sets, each using one complete kit. The invented count constraints are P + G no greater than eight and P no greater than six. Eight personalised gifts need eight print slots and exceed the printing count by two. Eight generic gifts use no slots. Four personalised plus four generic gifts use eight sets and four slots. The latter two combinations fit only these assumed counts.
Keep the service option attached to the request instead of publishing one universal gift-ready stock number. No partial-fulfilment route or actual service release follows from the first calculation. Shopify routing documentation supports checking feasible locations before preferences; it does not prove that a particular bill of materials, printing app, stock reservation or gift service has been configured.
Download the gift location personalised generic service headroom record (.csv). It includes the original table fields and scenarios alongside the added relationships. HYPOTHETICAL rows are editorial examples or required review scopes, not actual records. Actual quantity, configuration, component and file identities, materials, process, specification, copy, method, condition, observation, owner, decision, evidence and dates are blank. ACTUAL_BLANK is a separate empty starting row; enter permitted project evidence before using an actual record. A blank means unknown.

Source scope checked 17 October 2026: Shopify location and routing documentation concerns product inventory and sequential routing rules. It does not verify a gift bill of materials, printing service or the example’s complete-set and slot counts. The added configurations and calculations are hypothetical, with actual evidence and decisions pending.
What this changes in a packaging enquiry
Prepare the packaging purchase and replenishment plan by usable fulfilment location, including any location-specific cards or printing requirements. Ask where each supplier delivery will arrive and when the components become usable there. A network-wide stock total cannot establish that a particular location can dispatch a complete gift.
Discuss this packaging specification with Packrivo. We coordinate independent suppliers. MOQ: 500 pieces per product/design; illustrative quantities are not production offers. Confirm materials, samples, price and timing for your project.
